The National Association of Medical and Dental Academics(NAMDA) and the Congress of Nigerian Universities Academics(CONUA) are both being registered, and the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU) plans to sue the Federal Government over this.
This was said on Channels Television on Thursday by ASUU’s attorney, Femi Falana.
Chris Ngige, the minister of labor and employment, gave CONUA and NAMDA their certificates of registration on Tuesday.
The two organizations will coexist alongside ASUU, according to Ngige, who spoke as he handed the two unions their certificates of registration.
THETRUST MEDIA reports that ASUU has been on strike since February 14, 2022, till date.
Femi Falana said during an interview with Channels Television that the union would sue the Federal Government over the registration of the two unions.
In his words;
“ASUU is going to court. It is going to be the NIC,”
THETRUST MEDIA reports that a former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Attahiru Jega, in an interview with Arise Television, also accused Ngige of complicating matters.
Attahiru Jega said,
“He took the matter to the industrial court and the decision has been appealed by ASUU and now, he has registered two unions while trying to proscribe ASUU. If this is allowed by this government, I think it is a recipe for disaster and it may really create more problems than it can solve on this matter of strike action,”
