According to the Enugu Catholic Diocese’s authorities, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka is still serving as the Adoration Ministry’s spiritual director, contrary to what was widely reported on social media.
Also the Diocese’s authorities said, that Fr. Mbaka was just instructed to set aside some time alone so that he could hear what the Holy Spirit of God had to say.
Rev. Fr. Benjamin Achi said, that Fr. Mbaka will return to continue his duties as soon as possible.
In order to learn more about the actual situation, he directed our correspondent to a widely circulated interview he had with Padre Mike Nsikak Umoh, National Director of Social Communications for the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN).
Following the request for seclusion, Mbaka was given permission to suggest a priest to serve the people at the Adoration Ministry in the meantime, according to Fr. Achi’s account of the interview.
He also said that on Sunday, October 2, 2022, Fr. Mbaka introduced Fr. Anthony Amadi to the worshipers to take over while he was away, with the blessing of Bishop Callistus Onaga.
According to the spokesperson, some of the faithful objected and demanded that Mbaka must stay, which did not sit well with them.
The interview titled “Mbaka: the true position” reads:
“Going by an interview with the Director of Communications, Enugu Diocese, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Achi, the Very Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka was not removed from the Adoration Ministry, as many reports are suggesting.”
Rather, according to Fr. Achi, since it was recommended that Fr. Mbaka take time away in solitude in order to listen to what the Spirit of God had to tell him, he was allowed to propose a priest to administer, in the interim, to the faithful at the Adoration Ministry.
“With the approval of his Bishop, on Sunday, October 2, 2022, He introduced Fr. Anthony Amadi to the worshippers.”
“Unfortunately, some people were still not pleased, and would prefer that Fr. Mbaka remain.”
“What every true Christian, and especially every true Catholic, should do at this moment is to commit our dear brother and priest, Fr. Mbaka, to God in prayer so that he may, through this moment, encounter God especially, come out stronger and better in recognizing His will for him and gain more graces to channel those rare gifts for His glory and for the sanctification of the people of God and society at large.”
“The Church loves Fr. Mbaka and cherishes him as an illustrious son.”
“May our Mother Mary, the Queen of all Apostles, intercede for him. Amen. ”
